Explore a powerful way to set intentions based on a traditional Andean practice of preparing despachos, or prayer packets. After a brief meditation, this workshop provides participants with hands-on experience making despachos using symbolic items from their own cultures, and examines how to use them to set intentions before labyrinth walks and other meditative practices.
Explore the labyrinth as a sacred form of walking meditation and a pathway to healing, creativity, and personal transformation. Presented with Lars Howlett, the workshop is designed for artists, teachers, leaders, caregivers, and everyone looking to rest and renew. It includes group labyrinth walks, presentations on history, design, and uses of labyrinths, and ways to draw labyrinth patterns and create temporary and permanent installations.
There is a traditional practice in Peru of preparing despachos or prayer packets, which include symbolic contents. In this workshop, we will make our own prayer packets by substituting similar items from our own culture. We will set intentions and prayers by selecting items that hold special significance to create a package made from artful paper and other exquisite materials. We will complete the activity with a guided indoor walk on a canvas labyrinth, a calming meditation tool. Please feel free to bring photographs or representations of people you may be praying for, a bit of soil from a place that is special to you, herbs, flowers, or any small items that hold personal symbolic meaning.
